West Tripura DM bans unauthorized earth excavation, removal of soil without prior permission

Agartala, June 19: The West Tripura district administration has prohibited the excavation, cutting, or removal of soil without prior permission from the competent authority, citing growing concerns over unauthorized earthwork activities across different parts of the district.

According to an official notification issued by the District Magistrate of West Tripura, instances have been reported where soil is being excavated, cut, and transported without obtaining the necessary approvals.

The administration warned that such unauthorized activities could lead to environmental degradation, damage to public and private property, and other adverse consequences.

In view of the situation, the District Magistrate stated that under Sections 26, 30, and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2025, no individual, organization, contractor, or agency will be allowed to undertake soil excavation, earth cutting, or soil removal anywhere within West Tripura district without obtaining prior permission from the respective Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).

The notification further directed all Panchayat Secretaries and Ward Secretaries to maintain strict vigilance in their respective areas and promptly report any unauthorized excavation, earth cutting, or soil transportation activities to the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrates for necessary action.

The administration has emphasized that strict compliance with the directive is essential to prevent environmental damage and protect public assets.
